Horley Town 0-1 Erith Town - Report

FA Cup

Horley Town 0

Erith Town 1

Horley welcomed Erith to the New Defence in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round. It was never going to be an easy game and when Town were reduced to 10 men when James Clarke was sent off for what as described as hand bags after he was elbowed off the ball. Town now had to reorganise and change their game plan. It got worse on 29 mins when Erith went ahead and when Darren Tidy failed to beat the keeper on 40 mins it looked like it wasn't going to be Horley's day. The second half didn't improve for Horley as the ref and his assistants seemed intent on ensuring Erith went through to the next round as every decision went against Horley. The game had become a very scrappy affair with both sets of players reacting to tackles with arguing and confrontations going on all over the pitch. As time was running out Town's Kieran Lavery once brought down with 2 mins to go, in the box in what seemed a blatant penalty, only for the ref to everyone’s amazement wave play on. The game ended with Town going out of the FA Cup mainly due to a moment of madness in the first 15 mins and then with the refs awful performance.

Horley hope to have better luck on Saturday against Greenwich Borough in the FA Vase Cup.

Team: Lockwood, Weller, T Jupp(capt) Hodge, Cox. Smith, Grant, Howells, Clarke, Adsett, Tidy, Subs: Winsor, Lyward
Silver Fox

Biased naturally, but you do need to find some strikers from somewere if one is to mount a serious challenge this season.
