Horley Town 4-1 Banstead Athletic - ReportHorley Town 4
Banstead 1
Horley started the new year with a home game against Bandstead Athletic who were only 1 point behind them going into this game so a close encounter was expected. Horley came out with a very determined look about them and could have gone in the lead after 30 seconds, but Micheal Death just pulled his shot wide of the post. This was just the start the home side wanted and from here they dominated the game, Charlie Adsett opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he headed in a cross from Nathan Jupp. Adam Pullin who was making his 1st team debut was causing the visitors a lot of problems with his running power and he scored Horley's second after 17 minutes, when he fired in a spectacular shot from an acute angle that left the visitors goalkeeper grasping at thin air. John Eldred who was marshalling the midfield for Horley so well, got the third from just inside the box after 42 minutes and sent the home side in at the interval 3 up.
Banstead came out in the second half in much more of a determined mood and took control of the game, and got a goal after 67 minutes when Horley's Captain reliable Tony Jupp miss hit a clearence which went to a Banstead striker who fired to ball past Lockwood Towns keeper. Jupp made up for the mistake with a superb tackle 3 mins later to deny Banstead another chance, which had they scored could have changed the game. Horley started to come back into the excellent form they showed in the first half. Mark Gilbert replaced Charlie Adsett who added a fourth for Horley after 79 minutes and restored the 3 goal cushion. Youth team player Rhys Brown who has been performing well for the 1st team when called into action replaced Nathan Jupp after 75 minutes and his pace caused Banstead a few problems. Dave Powell came on for Micheal Death after 82 minutes and could have added another 2 goals to Horley’s total. On another day would, have but he was unlucky on both occasions. A special mention must be made to Micheal Death who did not get on the score sheet but he did provide an assist to 3 of the goals, and the whole team played their part in a very good performance.
