Horley Town 5-1 Bookham - Report

Horley Town FC 5

Bookham 1

With Ali Rennie the Horley manager away for 2 weeks his assistant Dave Roffey took charge in a game that Town needed to win to put some confidence back into the side after last weeks poor performance against Sandhurst. They started badly and were soon struggling against a battling Bookham side. Bookham made the better start and took the lead on 17 mins which shook the Town players into trying to play simple passing football, but the final ball was still not finding its target. John Eldred put Horley back into the game on the stroke of half time which would enable Roffey to try and lift the team for the 2nd half. Whatever Roffey said at half time had a immediate effect as Town came out a new team and were soon finding their teamates with with the final ball which was causing Bookham problems. Nathan Jupp back after illness put Horley ahead with a header of superb quality from a cross from Eldred. Town were now to total control and were now playing some outstanding football and with youth team player Kieran Lavery playing well in the midfield with Mick Norris, Lavery set up Jupps 2nd goal. Town were now flying and with Tony Jupp and Danny Guscott along with Right back Chris Weller and left bank Matt Hodge in control at the back, Town were able to play flowing football all over the pitch. Eldred made it 4-1 on 75 mins to ensure the 3 points were staying with Horley. Nathan Jupp capped his man of the match performance with his hatrick and the best goal of the day when he took the ball on his chest, swivelled as the ball dropped and smashed the ball into the Bookham net. This was Horley's best performance of the season and hopefully they can now build on it and take the confidence into their next game and start climbing the table to a position which the team should be in, if they can continue with this type of football then the boxing day match away at Merstham will be a great game and one Merstham will not be looking forward to.
