Horley Town Youth 1 - 1 Merstham Youth - ReportHorley Town Youth 1
Merstham Youth 1
Horley’s first league game of the season saw them take on local rivals Merstham. Horley with a new line up due to some of last years players moving up into the reserves and First team due to their age. This has allowed manager Nigel Abbott and his assistant Dave Roffey to bring in new younger players to form a squad of 23 promising Horley under 18’s. Town started well and were soon looking comfortable and taking control of the game and went I up through a superb strike from Kieran Lavery from 25 yards. Horley were now in the driving seat and with new captain Liam Cox at centre back organising his back for of Matt Trusson, Peter White and Chris Alpes, keeper Kristian Box looked to have a secure unit in front of him. Merstham tried to get back into the game but the town midfield of Joe Abbott, Kieran Lavery, Glenn Keepen, Luke Raggetti were proving to strong. Carl Bettell should have made it 2 when he blasted over from 6 yards, his strike partner Joe Froud also went close. The second half saw Town keep the pressure on but were unable to increase their lead which meant Merstham were always in with a chance. Joe Abbott had to be replaced by Luke Chapman after a bad tackle left him unable to continue. Luke Messiah came on for Joe Froud and Craig Lawrence replaced Chris Aples who was struggling with cramp. in the final mins Merstham through everything at Horley and with 1 min to go won a corner which fell to 1 of their players who was free due to a horley player failing to pick him up and he made it 1-1. A result that was a little unfair on Horley, but they will learn from it and hopefully get their first win of the season at Oakwood on Thursday.
Team: Box, Trusson, Cox (capt) White, Alpes, Abbott, Keepen, Lavery, Raggetti, Bettell, Froud. subs: Chapman, Messiah, Lawrence, Stamp, Hook.
